PEOPLE'S SCHOOL FOR POSITIVE EDUCATION
24 July 2023
"All peoples of African descent, whether they live in North or South America, the Caribbean, or in any other part of the world are Africans and belong to the African nation." Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah, Class Struggle in Africa, pg. 87
GREETINGS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
On behalf of all the staff of People's School for Positive Education, I would like to send greetings to the entire People's School family; parents, guardians, and friends. We have just entered the third week of the third term, of the 2023 school year. This term is eleven weeks and will end on 22 September 2023. We expect no less than the highest academic standard from all our students; which requires the support of parents and guardians.
ALUMNI STATISTICS
People's School for Positive Education has always kept track of alumni progress. Now, we have taken it to a higher level by researching the academic progress of all former People's School students. That begins with the 2012 graduating class and ends with the 2022 graduating class. We researched their SHS and University progress and found out their current academic status.
PSPE has a total number of 141 graduates from 2012 to 2022, which is an average of 14 graduates a year. Currently, 32 of those graduates are enrolled in Senior High School (23%). There are currently 32 PSPE graduates enrolled in University (23%). There are 17 graduates who have completed University with degrees (12%). 106 PSPE graduates have completed Senior High School with certificates (75%). Therefore, 138 of 141 PSPE graduates either completed senior high school or are currently enrolled in senior high school (98%). 53 graduates have completed SHS and are yet to enroll in University (38%). 3 graduates have not attended SHS (2%).
This data demonstrates that not only is PSPE preparing students to pass the BECE, with 100% of all candidates passing, PSPE also prepares students to succeed in SHS and University level instruction. That means they are academically and socially strong enough to perform in higher education.
BECE CANDIDATES
We are currently preparing for the 2023 BECE, which will begin on 7 August 2023, only two weeks away. We have 15 candidates taking the examination. The candidates have taken 3 mocks, in addition to their normal instruction, to prepare them for the BECE. So far, as indicated, PSPE has not experienced even one candidate failing the BECE. So far, all our candidates pass the BECE and qualify for senior high school enrollment, and not only qualify, but 106 of 109 eligible students, have completed SHS.
BABA MUKASA DADA VISIT
On 11 July, 2023, PSPE had the honor of hosting an icon of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, and the Pan-African and socialist Movements worldwide. He was the key person who popularized the slogan "Black Power" at the Meredith March Against Fear from Memphis Tennessee to Jackson Mississippi on 6 June 1966, to enable Africans the right to vote and end discrimination in education, among other demands. He faced white racial terrorism against Africans, and organized the first African political party in the US, called the Lowndes County Freedom Organization, which became known as the Black Panther Party. We were honored to host him. He gave a presentation on how the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) struggled for equality and freedom for Africans in the racist and white supremacy state of Alabama, and how the youth were vigilant in spite of facing racial terrorism and brutality. It reminds us of Ghana's heroic independence struggle against British colonialism.
FEEDING FEE CREDIT
Feeding fee credit is allowed, not exceeding one week. Please contact Nueki Dautey 0545951954, to clarify the circumstances regarding credit; it should be the exception but not the rule. The system should also be respected to ensure healthy, nutritious, and satisfying food; to give proper energy for students and staff, and to maximize productivity.
PTA MEETING
This term, we are preparing to host a PTA meeting, to discuss current conditions and developments in PSPE. We hope to see every parent at the meeting.
PROUD AFRICAN CAMPAIGN
I would like to commend all students and parents for respecting our Proud African campaign. We haven't encountered any resistance from parents visiting the school in presenting their traditional names. We witness the students using their traditional names with great pride and dignity on a consistent basis. Currently, 26 of 30 staff have traditional African names on their official Ghana Cards and NHIS cards. In PSPE we are shining like the Black Star by using our African names, the only names that are authentically and originally ours, representing our unique culture and place under the sun. We appeal to parents to respect our traditional names at our homes, and give those names a very high position; understanding many of our ancestors have used them before we inherit them.
